Majka Burhardt is the author of Vertical Ethiopia: Climbing Toward Possibility in the Horn of Africa (Shama Publishing, 2008). Shama is Ethiopia's leading publishing company, and Burhardt has developed a lasting relationship with them which now extends to this next project. Burhardt is a frequent lecturer about the intersection of adventure, culture, and environment and she has worked extensively in Africa examining the intersection of the three. Executive Producer of the documentary film, Waypoint Namibia (2009) Burhardt also works as a professional climber and mountain guide. Her work in Africa has been featured on national news programs, radio shows, and in magazines and newspapers thought the world. Majka Burhardt has an MFA in Creative Writing from the Warren Wilson Program for Writers and received her BA in anthropology from Princeton University.
